Abdominal sonography (abdominal ultrasound).
What this treatment entails:
This treatment can include an assessment of the entire abdominal cavity. The outcome of this assessment greatly depends on various factors that affect the penetration depth of the sound waves (e.g. air in the intestine, fatty tissue, etc.). In principle, it allows visualization of the following organs and structures of the abdominal cavity:
- Liver, gall bladder
- Spleen, lymph nodes
- Kidneys
- Pancreas
- Large vessels (such as aorta or inferior vena cava)
- Urinary bladder
- Prostate
- Uterus
- Intestine (with some restrictions)
